Tribute Gifts
When saying thank you isn’t enough
- recognize your mentor with a tribute gift.
Whether you’re a lawyer, a judge or even a professor of law, your mentor helped guide you to a position within our profession. They provided the inspiration. The aspiration. Even opened the door for you when you needed to get started, which is why “thank you” sometimes isn’t enough to convey your gratitude.
The SC Bar Foundation provides the opportunity to appropriately say thank you with our tribute gifts. Let everyone know how much your mentor has impacted your career by honoring them today or memorializing them tomorrow.
Tribute gifts are recognized in the newsletter, Foundation Brief, and in the SC Bar’s SC Lawyer. In addition, the family members of those honored receive correspondence via letter from the Foundation.
Policy regarding
tribute gifts:
The Foundation encourages gifts in memory
of lawyers or gifts honoring lawyers. Memorial gifts for deceased
judges are permitted. Tribute gifts by individual lawyers or law
firms for retired judges are permitted. In the case of memorial
gifts, the family of the honoree is notified of the gift and the
donor is acknowledged via letter and in timely Foundation and Bar
publications. In the case of tribute gifts, the honoree is notified
of the gift and the donor is acknowledged via letter and in timely
Foundation and Bar publications.
Tribute gifts from individual lawyers for
sitting judges are not permissible with the exception of gifts
governed by the Judicial Portrait Policy. If such a tribute gift is
made, the donor will be contacted and invited to redirect the gift
or have his or her gift returned. It is the intention of the
Foundation to prevent the perception of undue influence by
allowing a gift to be given in honor of a sitting judge.
