So much has been accomplished in South Carolina by grantees of the Bar foundation. The revenue provided by IOLTA has been an excellent resource. However, history has shown us that IOLTA will fluctuate — and greatly so. The Foundation has learned to be more aggressive with asking members of the Bar to provide additional support. Lawyers and law firms who support the Foundation provide much needed funds used to help fill the gap in IOLTA revenue. We are grateful. Each gift has allowed the Foundation to expand our grant making capacity beyond what IOLTA alone can do.
We applaud our annual donors as well as our extraordinary Society of Justice donors. Once donors meet certain levels, they are honored in the Foundation’s Justice or Liberty Legacy.
Donors may designate their gift to one of our restricted funds or may provide a gift to our General Fund allowing the Foundation to utilize that support where it is needed the most.
| Lawyers whose gift goes toward the General Fund may choose to honor a colleague through the Foundation’s Tribute Gifts program. Tribute gifts are designed to honor a colleague today or memorialize them tomorrow. Donors who make tributes are listed, along with the honoree, in Foundation Brief as well as in SC Lawyer. Publication of names in this fashion permits timely recognition of those honored. Annually, the Foundation supports Memory Hold the Door. This program of the SC Bar and the University of South Carolina School of Law was established in 1958 to preserve “the spirit and high ethical and professional standards of past leaders of the legal profession.” The Foundation invites contributions from individuals and firms wishing to honor these worthy individuals. |
